Program Goals

The diverse, students programs offered at the Galleries at Moore, Moore College of Art & Design, that introduce local, national, and international contemporary art to the Philadelphia community are intended to sustain, expand, and develop our educational outreach. The galleries' exhibitions cover a broad scope of contemporary and postmodern concepts; the accompanying educational programs help to bring these exhibitions and conceptual subjects into a more familiar context. By expanding our efforts to include both in-gallery education and outreach programs, we hope to encourage educators and students to become more involved with contemporary art education.

It is our belief that the opportunity to engage students with contemporary artists, and the direction and influence of their work is a vital component to art appreciation. Contemporary art education gives students the chance to explore the diversity of current experimentations in art, and heightens their ability to conduct and participate in critical conversations amongst their peers and educators. The exhibitions that we see in contemporary galleries will one day be in the art history books of our classrooms. By encouraging students to evaluate the present, we enhance their ability to understand and appreciate the past with the knowledge that everything has at one time been called contemporary.

Outreach

In collaboration with Moore College of Art & Design's Art Education Department, the galleries' Education Interns offer outreach programs to further involve students and educators with contemporary art education in their classrooms.

The type of outreach programs offered include:
Slide presentations of the galleries contemporary and modern art exhibition history.

Art projects, taught by the galleries' Education Interns and Moore College's art education students, that relate to a variety of modern, post-modern, and contemporary artists and methodologies.

Art historical lectures pertaining to modern and post-modern artists, and the direction and influence of their work on contemporary art.

Gallery Tours

Docent-guided tours, given by both the galleries' Education Interns and Moore College's art education students, are offered for all of the galleries' yearly exhibitions. Our educated docents are knowledgeable about each exhibition and present information pertaining to the exhibitions' artists, genres, and methodologies.

Exhibition tours can be scheduled through the galleries' Education Interns.
