I Wanna Take Me a Picture: Teaching Photography and Writing to Children, by Wendy Ewald, co-authored by Alexandra Lightfoot, is written for parents and teachers as an accessible and practical guide to getting children involved in photography. All participating teachers, teaching artists and Moore art education faculty and students who attend our LTP Workshops receive intensive training in LTP based on the lessons and teaching tools in this book. A new curriculum book is set for publication…look for updates about when it will be available.

Literacy Through Photography encourages children to explore their world as they photograph scenes from their own lives, and then to use their images as catalysts for verbal and written expression. In connecting picture-making with writing and critical thinking, LTP promotes an expansive use of photography across different curricula and disciplines, building on the information that students naturally possess. LTP also provides opportunities for students to bring their home and community lives into the classroom. Photographs can give teachers a glimpse into their students’ lives and, in increasingly diverse classrooms, give students a way to understand each other’s experiences.
