A vital part of The Galleries' ongoing commitment to educational outreach, Community CoLABs have two distinct areas of focus that benefit the community: K–12 Students - Special Projects offer extended instruction and meaningful engagement between students at Moore and K–12 students and Programs for Special Populations—aging adults, the homeless and the physically or mentally disabled—are an important component of the Community CoLAB series promoting meaningful engagement with surrounding community groups and organizations.
The Community CoLAB programs are made possible through a grant from The Barra Foundation.
Community CoLAB: Words & ImagesMarch 16 – April 23, 2009
A collaboration between The Galleries, students in the Teen Thursdays program at the Free Library of Philadelphia and Moore’s Art Education and printmaker Katie Van Vliet, this project draws inspiration from Voices of the Revolution, 15 color woodblock prints by Edith Kaplan with an anthology of poems and historical notes edited by Helen Haynes based on the civil rights movement of the 1950’s. Students will research the libraries’ archives for documentation of Philadelphia’s role during the civil rights era to create their own woodblock print book about how the movement shaped the city of Philadelphia and its community.

The project grew into seven weekend Senior Art Workshops and culminated in a second presentation of the video and the senior's artworks on May 21, 2008.
Community CoLAB: Greenfield Stories: School as CommunityDecember 14, 2007–January 6, 2008
For the first Community CoLAB, students, under Art Education faculty guidance, worked with students in grades four through six from Albert M. Greenfield School for ten weeks. The result was Greenfield Stories: School as Community, a four-week exhibition on view 24 hours a day, seven days a week in our new window gallery on Race Street. The show included videos documenting the project and sixteen 2 x 5 foot paintings that presented vibrant portraits of the students' interpretations of the past, present and future of the Greenfield School.
